U S Army Infantry Center At Fort Benning, GA
Fort Benning is a military base facility of the
United States military southwest of Columbus, Georgia. The base is
located in Muscogee County, Chattahoochee County and Russell County.
Fort Benning was established is 1918 and is named for Major
General Henry L. Benning. Known as the "Home of the Infantry," the
installation spreads over Size:182,000
acres 182,000 acres(app:300 SQ Miles)
and is home to the U.S. Army Infantry Training Brigade, U.S.
Infantry School, Ranger Training Brigade, Airborne School, and School of
the Americas. From 1918 until present the development of Fort Benning
has been proportional to the schools progress. Through out the years,
the mission of Benning and the Infantry School has remained
fundamentally the same. "To produce the world's finest combat
Infantrymen". Although Benning is a Training and Doctrine command
installation, units of Forces Command make up 50 percent of permanent
party personnel on post. They are the 3rd Brigade, 3d Infantry Division
, and the 36th Engineer Group. The 3d Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger
Regiment, and its Regimental Headquarters are also located at Benning.
Fort Benning is sout h of Columbus, Georgia on U.S. highway 27. It has
an active duty Population: 33,388 active duty;
6,759 civilians; 53,808 family members
which includes both reserve components. The Fort Benning
military community can also be reached on Interstate 85 south, to
Interstate 185 south, this route will lead you directly into the
installation. You may then travel (right) on 1st Division Rd. to Dixie
Rd. You will then find the Installation Welcome Center (Bldg 2622),
where all military permanent party personnell are required to sign-in.

RELOCATION/REPORTING
PROCEDURES:
All permanent party personnel, officer & enlisted, report to the
Welcome Center (Bldg 2622), Soldiers' Plaza,
1n/out processing AG Division (BIdg 2622) Collins Loop Phone:
(706)—545-2010/1665 which is open
every day,(M-F) 0700-1800. After duty hours report to AG Replacement Det.,
Bldg. 2818 C Company 1/11 IN REGT, Building 2819, telephone
706-545-1662/4227, 1st Infantry Brigade Loop off Dixie RD.
Fort Benning will receive a
convenient and short in processing. 1-3 Day depending on date and time
of arrival. · Lieutenant Colonels and above assuming Command of any unit
on this installation are requested to contact the Personnel Processing
Center in advance by telephone (706) 545-2010 to make arrangements for
their in processing. This in processing usually takes less than one day,
depending on date and time of arrival.
If you are coming here in TDY status,
you will report directly to the unit stated on your orders. The
unit will schedule all necessary appointments.Courses

INITIAL ENTRY TRAINING (IET) SOLDIERS: If you are coming
to Fort Benning for basic training or advanced individual training (AIT),
you will be taken to the Reception Station, Sand Hill, Building 3020,
where you will process through several stations, prior to being assigned
to your unit. If you are married and are coming here for basic or AIT,
remember this is a temporary stopping place. Once you have completed
training, you will receive orders and most likely leave Fort Benning. It
is not a good idea for your family to move here with you. Until you are
ready to make your first move after completion of training, it is best
not to uproot the family. You will have a great deal on your mind, with
a full schedule, and you need to focus on training. Basic Combat

The Army Continuing Education System provides educational
opportunities through the Army Education Center located in Soldiers'
Plaza. These educational opportunities support total Army goals, enhance
the quality of life within the military community and offer personal
growth experience through career development and other voluntary
educational programs. In addition, Learning Centers provide computerized
/ multimedia resource materials to assist in training, education,
professional and self-development.The programs offered range front
on-duty basic skills instruction to vocational and college programs.
On-post classes are provided through Troy State University, Upper
Iowa University and Chattahoochee Valley State Community College, with
Columbus State University and Columbus Technical Institute within close
commuting distance.
Financial assistance is provided through Army Tuition Assistance,
Veterans Educational Assistance Program, the old G.I. Bill / Montgomery-
G.I. Bill and various grants, loans and scholarships.
Education counselors are available at the Education Center in
Soldiers' Plaza to assist in career, vocational, and professional

There are four main
cantonment areas on Ft. Benning.
They are the Main Post area, Mall,&Kelley Hill, Sand Hill and
Harmony Church.
Main Post houses various garrison and smaller FORSCOM units of Ft.
Benning
such as 36th Engineer Group, 988th MP Co., and 29th Infantry Regiment
(training support)
and misc. TRADOC-related functions, i.e. OCS and airborne school, for
instance.
Kelley Hill houses the 3rd Brigade of the 3rd Infantry Division
(Mechanized).
Sand Hill is the primary location of the Infantry Training Brigade and
Basic Combat Training Brigade,
while the Harmony Church houses the Sniper schools, Collins
Training Center and Ranger schools.
The Officer Candidate School (OCS) of the United States Army is a school
located at Fort Benning Main Post area.
The Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHISC),
formerly known as School of the Americas Fort Benning Main Post

Fryar Drop Zone, the drop zone that airborne students land into,
The base has a large basic training facility for infantry. It is home to
the Infantry Training Brigade of the United States Army
as well being the Army's foremost airborne (parachuting) training
center.
Further, it is home to a Basic Combat Training Brigade (BCTB) on Sand
Hill.
This is distinguished from Infantry Training Brigade (ITB) in that BCT
is 9 weeks compared to IT's 14 weeks. BCTB is used to train non-infantry
