Regulations

Traffic : Early morning and late afternoon traffic patterns on the reservation are modified in certain locations to allow vehicles to enter and leave expeditiously. Some streets are made one-way, while others are blocked to facilitate movement in the mornings & afternoons, Mon through Fri.

TRAFFIC:Fort Benning's military police aggressively enforces its on-post speed limits.  The speed limit during PT hours (0600-0730) is 15 MPHs - NO EXCEPTIONS. 

Vehicle Registration is required for all privately owned vehicles operated on Fort Benning, Ga.

All personal fire arms stored on Fort Benning, whether they are kept in quarters or unit Arms rooms, will be registered on post within 72 hours. Registration is mandatory. Storing unregistered weapons on Fort Benning will be considered a direct violation of written policy and is punishable under the Uniform Code of Military Justise (UCMJ).

Housing information: Georgia leases have a military clause: If you receive PCS orders or TDY orders in excess of 90 days, you can break your lease with a copy of your PCS/TDY orders and a writen 30-day notice. Being assigned government quarters does not allow you to break your lease. Pet fees are non-refundable.
 Georgia Laws defines DUI as 0.08% blood alcohol content (lowest in the USA). Do not operate any vehicle or machinery after drinking alcoholic beverages. Alcohol will not be consumed while on duty.
Motorcycles: Army Motocycle Safety Course is required for post registration. Riders must wear motorcycle helmets with fastened chin strap and shatter-resistant eye protection. Leather boots or shoes and gloves are a requirement. Long shirts and jackets with highly visible reflective vest are required.

POST REGULATIONS

CONTROL OF CHILDREN

Guidance on Fort Benning’s rules for controlling children can be found in USAIC Regulation 210-5. The regulation establishes a daily curfew for children under 18 years of age between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. During those hours, children must be in quarters or under the direct supervision of a parent or adult guardian. Children under 12 years of age will not be left unattended in government quarters. Children under 8 years of age will not be left unattended in vehicles. FIREARMS REGISTRATION

All privately owned firearms maintained on the installation, in family housing or unit arms room, must be registered with the Provost Marshal Vehicle/ Firearms Registration Office within 72 hours of arrival on post or within 72 hours of obtaining the firearm, at Building 2637. Firearms obtained at a later time may be registered during normal duty hours.

Personnel temporarily bringing a weapon onto post for the purpose of hunting are not required to register their weapons, but must obtain and possess a valid Fort Benning hunter’s permit. Members of the Fort Benning Rifle and Pistol Club who bring a firearm on post for target practice are exempted as long as they have a current Fort Benning Rifle and Pistol Club membership card and carry it with them.

Storing weapons in automobiles or carrying concealed weapons is strictly prohibited on Fort Benning. Weapons will be stored only in family housing or unit arms rooms.

No weapons will be transported on Fort Benning with a loaded round in the chamber or with a loaded magazine clip affixed into the weapon load chamber. Handguns will not be concealed in glove compartments, under seats, or in any other way. Weapons will not be left unattended in vehicles. Authorized handguns (pistols and revolvers), shotguns, rifles, or bows and arrows will be transported in the trunk of the automobile to the ranges or hunting sites. In those instances where a vehicle does not have a trunk, or the storage space is not adequate to accommodate firearms, the weapons will be carried in the vehicle in such a manner that makes them readily observable by enforcement personnel.

VEHICLE REGISTRATION

Personnel arriving on Fort Benning for duty are required to register their motor vehicle(s) within 10 working days. Normally this is accomplished during in-processing at the Vehicle/Firearms Registration Office, Building 2637.

All military (active duty and retired), Department of the Army civilians, or any person who resides, performs duty, employed on or frequently uses Fort Benning facilities are required to register their motor vehicle(s).

Unregistered vehicles will not be operated, stored or parked on Fort Benning. Anyone in violation of this rule will be ticketed.

The Vehicle/Firearms Registration Office is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

When registering vehicles, the following items are required:

¨ Valid military identification card (active duty or retired military) or DA civilian identification card or recent pay voucher for DA civilians.

¨ Valid state driver’s license.

¨ Current state vehicle registration.

¨ Proof of vehicle insurance.

Temporary registration may also be obtained.

MANDATORY SEAT BELTS

The wearing of safety belts (lap and shoulder as provided) in government owned or privately owned vehicles is mandatory for all personnel while operating or riding in vehicles on Fort Benning or its satellite facilities. Exempted from this requirement are military-design tactical motor vehicles that are not equipped with restraining devices and privately owned vehicles manufactured before January 1, 1964. Georgia State Traffic Laws require children under the age of four years to be restrained with approved child restraint devices at all times when a vehicle is operated. By order of the commanding general, persons are prohibited from riding in the back of an uncovered pickup truck.
