Arrival

The Columbus Metro Airport is located less than 15 miles from Fort Benning and provides quick access to the post.  Travel time to Fort Benning is 20-25 minutes. Military Liaison: Office located near baggage claim.Military Liaison: COLUMBUS AIR  (706) 324-4079

Ground Transportation: Transportation services are provided by taxi service located outside near the baggage claim area.TAXI service from or to the Atlanta Airport. Shuttle Services /TAXI service are available for pickup and drop off at the Atlanta Airport. Most shuttle services will take you to the location of your choice (Home, Airport, Hotel, Post, etc...)

IMPORTANT
Fort Benning's military police aggressively enforces its on-post speed limits.  The speed limit during PT hours (0600-0730) is 15 MPHs - NO EXCEPTIONS.  So please, slow down and drive carefully.

Ft Benning is both an integral community into itself and a part of a larger community that includes Columbus, Georgia; Phenix City, Alabama; and the Chattahoochee Valley. It is a two-hour drive from Atlanta, via Interstate 185.  The Fort Benning military community can also be reached on Interstate 85 south, to Interstate 185 south, this route will lead you directly into the installation.

DIRECTIONS: Fort Benning is located in SW Georgia. The Alabama State line is just to the west across the Chattahoochee River. It is located at the south end of the city of Columbus. It is located approximately 110miles south of Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport.

From Hartsfield International, take ramp (left) onto I-285/Atlanta Airport/Montgomery At Exit 61, turn Right onto Ramp towards I-85/Atlanta/Montgomery Take ramp left onto I-85 towards I-85/Columbus/Montgomery At exit 21 take ramp (right) onto I-185 towards I-185 Columbus Fort Benning is directly at the end of I-185 South.

RELOCATION/REPORTING PROCEDURES:

 All permanent party personnel, officer & enlisted, report to the Welcome Center (Bldg 2622), Soldiers' Plaza, 1n/out processing AG Division (BIdg 2622) Collins Loop Phone: (706)—545-2010/1665 which is open every day,(M-F) 0700-1800. After duty hours report to AG Replacement Det., Bldg. 2818 C Company 1/11 IN REGT, Building 2819, telephone 706-545-1662/4227, 1st Infantry Brigade Loop off Dixie RD. Fort Benning will receive a convenient and short in processing. 1-3 Day depending on date and time of arrival. · Lieutenant Colonels and above assuming Command of any unit on this installation are requested to contact the Personnel Processing Center in advance by telephone (706) 545-2010 to make arrangements for their in processing. This in processing usually takes less than one day, depending on date and time of arrival.
If you are coming here in TDY status, you will report directly to the unit stated on your orders. The unit will schedule all necessary appointments.

INITIAL ENTRY TRAINING (IET) SOLDIERS: If you are coming to Fort Benning for basic training or advanced individual training (AIT), you will be taken to the Reception Station, Sand Hill, Building 3020, where you will process through several stations, prior to being assigned to your unit. If you are married and are coming here for basic or AIT, remember this is a temporary stopping place. Once you have completed training, you will receive orders and most likely leave Fort Benning. It is not a good idea for your family to move here with you. Until you are ready to make your first move after completion of training, it is best not to uproot the family. You will have a great deal on your mind, with a full schedule, and you need to focus on training. If you get married before you PCS, you must inform your commander and follow the procedures exactly as you are given. If you do not follow proper procedures, the military will not pay for travel and housing for your spouse

GENERAL:

Martin Army Community Hospital (MACH), Fort Benning, is a medical facility that provides an extensive variety of inpatient and outpatient medical services to eligible military beneficiaries. Columbus is the home of a large general/trauma center hospital, Columbus Regional, as well as Doctors Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, the Bradley Center (psychiatric-care), Hughston Orthopedic Hospital, and numerous other specialized medical facilities and physicians.

There are six elementary schools & one middle school on post, (706) 545-2500.

High school students living on post are bused to nearby Spencer High School, (706) 685-7652, in Columbus.

There are also a variety of private schools available in Columbus.

Adult educational opportunities in the Columbus area include Columbus State University, Chattahoochee Valley Community College, Troy State University and Columbus Technical College.

There are ample day care facilities available both on Fort Benning and in Columbus.

 Guest Housing: Fort Benning Guest House offers 1100 attractive, affordable rooms for you and your family.  Each accommodations offers useful amenities you will not find at most other lodging facilities in the area such as Security card system and Handicap suites.  Prices range from $28 to $60 per night and may accommodate from 4 to 6 guests. Reservations can be made 3 days prior to your stay based upon space availability. Those with PCS orders have priority and may make advance reservations. Check in time is 2 p.m. and not later than 6 p.m. After 6 p.m., rooms are available on a first come basis. Reservations can be made over the phone or at Olsen Hall (Bldg 399). Reservations must be made with a credit card. Guests and family members may qualify for billeting privileges at the Gavin House on Fort Benning. They can determine their billeting eligibility by calling the Fort Benning Billeting Office at (706) 689-0067.

Pets & Relocation: Ft Benning does not have on-post boarding facilities for pets; however, there are approximately 12 kennels in the local area,
several with in/outdoor facilities & pick-up and delivery.

Housing & Leases: Georgia leases have a military clause: If you receive PCS or TDY orders in excess of 90 days, you can break your lease with a copy of your orders and a written 30- day notice. Being assigned government quarters does not allow you to break your lease.
Ad Valorem tax exemption is available to soldiers with
cars in their names only.
