VETERINARY SERVICES

Veterinary Services at Fort Benning, located on 10th Mountain Division Road in Building 265, are divided into two branches. The Veterinary Treatment Facility Branch of Veterinary Services provides authorized outpatient type services to privately owned animals which are required to effectively prevent and control infectious animal diseases. The Food Hygiene Safety and Quality Assurance Branch of Veterinary Services insures wholesome food for the military community.

Services for privately owned animals at the veterinary facility include vaccination programs, treatment of transmittable diseases, on-post pet registration, health certificates for travel, impoundment, quarantine services and means to humanely euthanize and dispose of ill and unwanted pets.

Diagnostic procedures are also available which include heartworm testing, and feline leukemia testing. All vaccines and medications will be paid for by the owner. Privately owned animals requiring after duty emergency treatment, surgery, radiology or hospitalization will be referred to civilian veterinary hospitals.

The Food Hygiene Safety and Quality Assurance Branch of Veterinary Services issues wholesome food for the military community by performing inspections upon receipt, storage, at issue or sale of all edible items. Consumer complaints of poor quality subsistence can be addressed by calling 545-3088/6466.

Provides limited services for privately-owned animals (immunizations, diagnosis & treatment of parasites, heartworm tests, issuance of health certificates, vaccinations for rabies, distemper, leptospirosis, infectious hepatitis). No hospitalization, radiographic, or surgical services provided. 

For those residing on Ft Benning, rabies vaccination licenses are issued at the Vet Activity when vaccinations are given. For pets of military personnel who reside off post, take certificate provided by the Vet Activity when vaccination is given to a private veterinarian to be licensed by the city of Columbus.

Pet Quarantines

In the event of bite incident on post, animals are quarantined for rabies detection at the Vet Activity. Veterinary Clinic, Fort Benning, GA. (706) 545-4444.

ANIMAL IMPOUNDMENT/ADOPTION FACILITY  Vets Office

The animal impoundment/adoption facility is located next to Veterinary Services. Stray pets are impounded here and unless claimed, or have identifiable owners, are only kept three full working days. Unowned pets may be adopted and make excellent companions and family members.

People may also place their pets up for adoption for a minimal fee. People interested in viewing pets need to check with veterinary personnel before doing so. For information or appointments, call 545-4444/1127.

Veterinary Services is open Monday through Friday, 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 to 3 p.m. for over the counter sales. Patients will be seen by appointment only.
