OUTDOOR RECREATION Outdoor Recreation Office

The Outdoor Recreation Office is located in Building 1707 on Gillespie Street, and is open weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. The office is closed on all Federal Holidays.

HUNTER CONTROL

Outdoor Recreation operates Equipment Rental and Storage, and during hunting season Hunter Control. Hunter Control is a computerized telephone call-in program designed to allow maximum use of available hunting areas while distributing the hunter/hunting area ratio evenly. It also provides a quick, positive means of identifying missing hunters.

Georgia State Hunting and Fishing Licenses and Fort Benning Hunting and Fishing Permits are available here as well as at the Uchee Creek Army Campground and Marina.

EQUIPMENT RENTAL

The Equipment Rental and Storage Office offers canopies,  tables and chairs, smokers and cookers,  and a variety of sporting equipment for rent. Also available is a secured storage area for recreational vehicles and locker storage modules in a variety of sizes. Registration for use of the Lemon Lot sales area is available here.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

The Sports Section is responsible for organizing and conducting Department of the Army sports programs hosted by Fort Benning, post-level sports programs, company-level intramural sports program. In addition, the Sports Section is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the gyms/field houses, fitness centers, tennis courts and athletic fields. The Aquatics Section operates one indoor swimming pool year round, and four outdoor pools, located on Main Post,Hall St Kelley Hill,Recreation Center Sand Hill, Sand Hilland Custer Terrace, Directions to Kandle dr  during the summer. In addition, the Aquatics Section conducts unit drownproofing, advanced lifesaving, combat water safety training. For information call 545-5709.

RECREATION AREAS

KING’S POND RECREATION AREA KING’S POND

King’s Pond Recreation Area is located in the Harmony Church area off Hourglass Road. A small fishing pier, low level playground equipment, picnic tables and grills are readily available in the area. Facilities are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

RUSS POND RECREATION AREA Russ Pond

Russ Pond Recreation Area is located on Main Post, behind the McDaniel Manor housing area on Clark Road. A picnic pavilion with fireplace, latrine facilities, picnic tables, grills and low-level playground equipment are available. Fishing in Russ Pond is restricted to children only.

UCHEE CREEK ARMY CAMPGROUND/MARINA  Uchee Creek

The Uchee Creek Army Campground and Marina is located on the Alabama side of Fort Benning 10 miles from Main Post.

From Fort Benning, take Dixie Road to Sightseeing Road around Lawson Airfield, across Eddy Bridge, then left on 101st Airborne Division Road and watch for the signs.

The 215-acre recreation area offers fishing boats with motors, canoes, self-contained and pop-up campers, barbecue smoker/cookers, portable generators, cots, tents, lanterns, camping stoves, ice chests, sports equipment and pontoon party boats for a minimum fee.

There are 42 log cabins available for rent which sleep four to eight people. Cabins are furnished with cooking and dining utensils, stove, refrigerator, heat and air conditioning. Towels, soap and sheets are not furnished. Pets are not allowed in the cabins.

The campground has sites with complete hook-ups (water, electricity and sewage) and other sites with electricity and water only. A comfort station with shower, toilet, and laundry facilities is located within the campgrounds. A dump station is located nearby. There are 18 and 29 foot Coachmen trailers available to rent for use at Uchee Creek or for on the road.

Picnic tables and grills are available for family outings or unit functions on a first come, first serve basis. Picnic pavilions are available for rent.

A swimming pool is available for use by Uchee Creek residents. Non-residents and guests may purchase a daily pass to the pool.

The Country Store offers snacks, drinks, live bait, fishing supplies, ice, state and post hunting and fishing permits.

In addition, a recreation lodge that features a complete kitchen is available on a reservation basis. Reservations can be made at the Country Store, 545-7238/4053.

DESTIN, FLORIDA Destin Recreation Area

The U.S. Army Infantry Center Recreation Area, Destin, Florida, is located on a 12 ½ acre tract on Choctawhatchee Bay, approximately 220 miles from Fort Benning.

There are two-bedroom duplex cabins that sleep six people, three-bedroom cabins that sleep 10 people and a motel with two double beds per unit. All cabins are fully furnished and all motel rooms have a microwave oven, refrigerator and coffee maker.

The campground has 50 RV pads with full hookups. A bath house with shower, toilet and laundry facilities is located adjacent to the campgrounds.

Rental equipment available includes deep sea fishing boats, paddle boats, jet skis, pontoon boats, and boat slips for customers’ personal boats.

There is a volleyball court, playground, swimming pool, sandy beach and lighted pier available at the recreation area.

No pets are allowed at the recreation area. Reservations and information are available from the Outdoor Recreation Office, at 545-5600

RECREATION CENTERS

The Community Recreation Centers are located in Kelley Hill, Building 9079, Recreation Centerand Sand Hill, Building 3308. Sand Hill

The Centers provide a friendly, attractive, recreational and leisure atmosphere for service members and their families. Available at the centers are television and movie rooms offering forty-six inch TV screens, board game areas, pool tables, air hockey, foosball, video games, musical instruments and sound proof booths, table tennis, Nintendo game rooms, CD players and radios, and an auditorium for special events. The activities vary from ethnic and patriotic observances to pool, table tennis chess and card tournaments. Snack bars are in each facility.

RIFLE & PISTOL CLUB

The Fort Benning Rifle and Pistol Club is located on English Range in Building 8006, on Dixie Road across from Infantry Hall.

The club has 36 firing points for both rifle and pistol with a maximum range of 500 yards. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday and Sunday, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday during the winter.

The Fort Benning Rifle and Pistol Club is a private organization sanctioned by Fort Benning. A yearly membership fee of $30 (which includes spouse and children under 18) is required in order to use the facility. E-4 and below have a membership fee of $24. Bona-fide TDY personnel (includes IOAC/IOBC) may purchase quarterly or semi-annual memberships at $15 and $20 respectively.

The club has rental weapons at a very reasonable rate. A Combat Match, designed for both new and experienced shooters, using stock equipment, is held monthly. Special Training and Competitive Events such as the "Glock Match," "Gunsite Training Course" and "Ladies Only" personal protection course are held yearly.
